Local pets invited to Halloween costume contest
October 22, 2012 · 12:42 PM
Coastal Farm & Ranch hosts a Halloween costume contest for pets on Saturday at its Auburn store, 1425 Supermall Way.
Dogs, cats, turtles and even horses are invited to compete for prizes, and bring their owners. Judging begins at 3 p.m.
"Our Pet Costume Contest is an October tradition around here. Every year people get so creative for this contest," said store owner Buzz Wheeler. "I love seeing all the great costumes."
Pets will be judged in three weight classes: under 20 pounds; 20 to 100 pounds; and more than 100 pounds.
In addition to these, there will be a "most unusual" costume winner.
Nutrena and Loyall have donated more than $1,500 in pet food prizes. Pets will receive free treats for entering and Coastal is donating $1 for each entry to the local humane society.
"We encourage the public to stop by just to see all the cute pets and creative costumes," Wheeler said. "It's a great event for kids and families."
