Gildo Rey Elementary named as a National Distinguished Award Recipient

Gildo Rey Elementary School has been named as a National Distinguished Award Recipient through the Title I, Part A Distinguished Schools Recognition Program for 2010-2011.

Gildo Rey is receiving the award for its significant progress in closing the achievement gap among students in mathematics.

Gayle Paulie, director of Title I/LAP and consolidated program review, and Larry Fazzari, program supervisor, will present the award to staff and students on Thursday, June 9 at 10:15 a.m. at Gildo Rey Elementary School.

Schools are chosen based on the following criteria:

• Exceptional student performance in reading and/or math for the two most current school years.

• Significant progress in closing the achievement gap in reading and/or math for the two most current school years.

• National award winners are honored at the National Title I Conference, receive statewide recognition and a cash award.
