Auburn Valley Y presents first annual Teen Leadership Summit

The Auburn Valley YMCA's teen department will hold its inaugural Teen Leadership Summit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 13 at the Auburn Y and JA World, 1620 Perimeter Road SW.

Teens will learn how to give voice to their opinions in real-world situations. Pre-registration is required for a day filled with workshops, speakers, raffles, prizes and challenge activities. Lunch and snacks also are included in the registration.

"This is the first time we have put on an event like this, so we're pulling out all the stops to ensure a wonderful experience for every teen that attends," said Edward Joseph, leadership development director for the Auburn Y.

Workshop topics include: "How to get to college and land your dream job"; "Don't become a basketcase – stress management techniques"; "Becoming a professional athlete"; "The naked truth – a conversation about sex"; and "Why your community needs artists."

Keynote speaker Adam Fletcher, a community engagement specialist, will address the teens, and a panel of community members, business leaders and school administration will be available for an all-teen question-and-answer session.

The summit costs $25 for Auburn Y facility members, $15 for Auburn Y leadership club members, and $30 for anyone else wanting to attend.

Scholarships still are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
