Auburn Reporter earns WNPA awards

The Auburn Reporter earned awards at the recent Washington Better Newspaper Contest.

The newspaper took first place in advertising and special section: topical/non-tourism category for its Auburn Little League All-Stars 2010 World Series commemorative edition. The team project included the work of publisher Karen Henry, editor Mark Klaas, reporters Shawn Skager and Robert Whale and creative specialist Kevin Tucker.

Klaas took third place in news and photography: best personality profile (long) for "Lifetime of duty, sacrifice," featuring the life of Vickie Vallier.

In all, Sound Publishing collected 194 awards, up from 174 in 2010. Six of the awards were for general excellence, the most prestigious designation given out by the WNPA (Washington Newspaper Publishers Association.

The Washington Better Newspaper Contest drew 2,523 entries from 78 community newspapers in the state.
