Scobee Elementary kids go to recess for special cause

Students at Dick Scobee Elementary ran, jumped, skipped and crawled with a special purpose last Thursday – part of a school-wide Relay Recess that raised money for the American Cancer Society.

Students went through an obstacle course, a station-to-station relay positioned throughout the school's large field. The recess ran in the spirt of field day and Auburn's Relay For Life.

Leading up to the recess, Principal Adam Couch delivered daily announcements to students about the importance of cancer-preventive health and good exercise.

At last count, the relay raised more than $850 for the cause.

"The kids really enjoyed the event. I know they loved rotating to all of the different stations and also raising money for such a great cause," said Dara Lindberg, a first-grade teacher who helped coordinate the event with school staff.
