Auburn School District to launch user-friendly websites
Auburn School District is launching of new easy-to-use websites for all 22 schools and the district office.
The websites go live Aug. 22.
The new online presence will improve communication between schools and families.
Here are some of the new features:
• Real-time calendars for each school and district office
• A streamlined uniform layout across all websites so information is easy to find
• Critical information is in the same location on all websites – whether looking for the lunch menu, school events, teacher web pages, or emergency closures
• Information is timely and relevant with frequent updates
• Scrolling announcements, headlines, and upcoming events featured on each school's home page
The decision to update the district's websites was made more than a year ago and was based on feedback from staff and community members who felt the existing websites were out-of-date, and difficult to navigate. Work on the project began in the winter of 2011.
According to IT Director Neil Vien: "With the launch in August comes a brand-new website that is easier to operate. Our new website provides for consistent flow and uniformity while allowing each school the ability to remain unique."
Critical messages such as emergency snow closures, late starts and early dismissals will be promptly posted across all school sites, not just the district home page. All school sites will boast a staff directory so that parents and students can easily find teacher contact information.
Additionally, at the top of all websites is a horizontal menu named the "My Start" bar. The 'District'" button will always bring you back to the main district site and school drop-down menus will take you to a specific school's website.
"Our goal is to provide modern, relevant websites that allow students, parents, staff and community residents the opportunity to learn about and connect with Auburn School District," said Mike Newman, deputy superintendent.
The new websites will keep the public informed and connected to schools through up-to-date news, streaming video and podcasting, surveys, photo galleries and more.
The district will continue to add new content and enhance the functionality of the website throughout the 2012-13 school year.
