White River Buddhist Temple celebrates splendor of O-Bon
July 31, 2008 · Updated 2:00 PM
For Buddhists, O-Bon is the timeto reflect upon the dedicated lives
of departed ancestors who made present lives possible. On Saturday, the magic and beauty of the Bon Odori Festival – also called the “gathering of joy in gratitude” – brought the community together in a traditional celebration at the White River Buddhist Temple in Auburn.
Dancers in kimonos and other colorful garments danced and moved to the rhythmic tattoo of drums and the jangling of instruments.
Young and old came together to dance, rejoice and remember their ancestors, family and friends.
The festival attracted hundreds of people and members of the Seattle- and Tacoma-area temples.
There also was plenty of feasting and other activities.
