Auburn-area Top Food stores to launch backpack drive

Top Food & Drug stores in Auburn, Lake Tapps and elsewhere are starting a drive Saturday to collect backpacks filled with school supplies for local children in need.

While supplies last, customers can buy and donate a specially designated backpack at a Top Food store for $9.99 that is filled with school supplies, including a notebook, paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks and a ruler. The backpacks filled with school supplies, which have a retail value of $23, will be distributed to children in need by local schools and organizations.

“Since school is so important for our children, we’re joining our customers in helping them gain the basic necessities before their first day,” said Becky Skaggs, spokesperson for TOP Food stores.

Top Food & Drug stores are located at 1702 Auburn Way N., and 1406 Lake Tapps Parkway E.
