The AveKids for Book-It Repertory Theatre's production of "Never Forgotten" is 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Auburn Avenue Theater.

"Never Forgotten" is the Patricia C. McKissack's story of a father and son who are separated by slavery. But when Dinga, the father, calls upon Mother Earth and the elements, he learns that his son is alive and is at work as a blacksmith, just like his father. Dinga finds comfort in learning that his son has carried their traditions to the New World.

Book-It Rep and Book-It All Over are creating world-premiere adaptations of classic and contemporary literature for the stage, preserving the narrative text as it is spoken, not by a single "narrator" but as dialogue by the characters in the production.

Performing books instead of plays allows the Book-It theatre experience to spark the audience's interest in reading and to challenge the audience to participate by using their imaginations. More than 60 world-premiere adaptations of literature have been produced.
