Here's the film's description from the Seattle International Film Festival
Mixing together ingredients from caper films and political dramas, without losing any of the former’s frothy charm or the latter’s tart sting, ¡Atraco! imagines the hidden historical forces behind a real-life jewelry heist. In mid-’50s Madrid, loyalists to the exiled Juan Perón raise money for his relocation to Spain by pawning off some jewelry belonging to the late Evita. The plan is to purchase them back before their public appearance can create a scandal, but the glittering baubles catch the eye of “Mrs. Necklaces” herself, Franco’s wife Carmen Polo. With the jeweler’s cooperation a fake heist is quickly set up before Polo can claim the jewels and start showing them off around town. Security officer Merello (Guillermo Francella), a devout Peronista with years of experience at such skullduggery, and Miguel (Nicolás Cabré), an actor as perpetually nervous as he is unemployed, are paired up as the faux-robbers. Blasé Merello and bumbling Miguel make a great, snappy odd couple; but as Inspector Ramos (Óscar Jaenada) starts closing in, events take a sharp dramatic turn, reminding you that for all the laughs along the way this is still the story of a crime attempted under the nose of a dictatorship.
