Backus is best choice for mayor

The truth be told, most of us in Auburn are tired of all the political signs and rhetoric and are eager for the election to be over. But with all the signage and fliers, I’ve noticed two things about Largo Wales’ campaign.

First, she plays on fear. In her latest handout, she asked if we are afraid of being in our parks, library and parking lots. She said she would take a tough stand on “crime in the library.” The library staff I talked with were upset about this boast. What crime? The library is a safe place.

Second, she is dishonest in her description of Nancy Backus’s service history. In one of her ads she listed her service record and then said our mayor has served in PTA and the Miss Auburn Pageant. Wait a minute. Did Nancy Backus not serve on the City Council for 10 years and has she not served as mayor for the past four years? Margo conveniently forgot those facts.

Our mayor, Nancy Backus, is doing a wonderful job. She does not misrepresent her opponent or pander to fear. I like that kind of clean campaigning. Please vote for Nancy Backus.
