‘Bah! Humbug!’ Scrooge comes to local stage

The familiar words uttered by Ebenezer Scrooge have a spirited ring to them this holiday season, as Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company presents “Scrooge the Musical” on its Auburn stage.

“Scrooge!” opens at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 in the Performing Arts Building on the main campus of Green River College, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 22.

Performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 14, 15, 20, 21, with 2 o’clock matinees on Dec. 15, 16 and 22.

In 1843 Charles Dickens penned his novella, “A Christmas Carol,” and since then its popular message of redemption, love, and goodwill has resonated with generations in books, film and play houses worldwide. The musical theatre adaptation performed by Heavier Than Air is a charming version of the ageless story.

As the tale is told, the ghosts of Jacob Marley (Scrooge’s former business partner), Christmas Past, Present and Future, all pay the old miser a visit on an eventful Christmas Eve. The profound experience results in a miraculous change of heart and he vows to honor the spirit of the season throughout the year.

Tickets are $16 online, $20 at the door, and $12 for 12 or more guests at the same performance.
