Get fit: City offers plenty of fun options

The City of Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation is offering free fitness fun.

Join the goup this spring for some free and fun fitness options in location parks.

• Walk About Wednesdays | May 3-June 7, 6-7 p.m.

Every Wednesday, join neighbors for a free family walking club at different parks to explore a new area. Healthy snacks will be provided. No registration required, just show up. All ages are welcome.

Take your workout outside with this free summer six-week fitness series in Auburn Parks. Try out a new class or join in on an old favorite.

• Summer Shake Down Launch Day | Saturday, April 22 | 8-10:30 a.m., Auburn Community & Event Center

Start off the am with Group Power followed by Group Centergy. These classes are the perfect pairing with Power strengthening your muscles and Centergy stretching and elongating. This launch day will kick off the new April releases of both classes and participants will earn two punches on their Summer Shake Down passport. Fill your passport by June 3 for fantastic prizes. Swag bags are provided to the first 30 participants. This launch has limited space. Fitness membership is not required to participate. Fee: $5

• Run Like a Girl | Thursdays, April 27-June 1, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Calling all girls between the ages of 11-18! Want to be a runner before summer? Get moving this spring with this training program for teenage girls looking to get in shape and enjoy a positive and supportive group. Coaching sessions and runs are each Thursday for six weeks at Les Gove Park and end with a 5K race and BBQ celebration on June 1. Registration includes running coaching, a T-shirt and free access to The REC after-school program from 2:30-6:30 p.m. each Thursday for the duration of the program. Transportation to The REC is available from Auburn middle schools. Registration fee: $25/32

• Fitness memberships at the Auburn Community & Event Center

Monthly membership entitles members the unlimited use of the fitness center, full access to classes and open gym programs such as drop-in basketball, volleyball, and pickle ball. The Auburn Community & Event Center is in Les Gove Park at 910 9th Street SE.

Monthly fees:

Adults (ages 18 and older): $30 month; $25/month with automatic monthly renewal; or $5/day drop-in

Seniors (age 50 and older): $25/month; $20/month with automatic monthly renewal; or $4/day drop-in

Fitness center hours:

Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cardio Equipment: 4 treadmills, 3 elliptical trainers, a free-stride machine, 2 recumbent bikes and 2 spin bikes.

Nautilus weight equipment is available for a full body workout as well as a well-equipped stretching and free-weights area.

• Fitness Pass classes (included with membership)

Fitness pass classes are included for no additional fees. Classes are Monday-Friday mornings, in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. Following are some of the options that are available:
