Auburn’s newly installed 2016-2017 Downtown Sculpture Gallery showcases nine unique sculptures from artists throughout the region.

The sculptures were selected through a competitive application process, and the artwork is on temporary loan to the City for one year.

The sculptures on display represent a diversity of styles and techniques including the steel and fused glass of Pendent Mandala by local artist Ken Hall; the repurposed metal sculpture Daphne by Karsten Boyson; Salmon Goddess carved from Red Cedar by Patrick McVay; Gear Ball by Jenny Ellsworth; Aspire by Dale Reiger; and Costume by Ken Turner. These along with Roger Small’s Worship, Steve Tyree’s Cougar on the Run, and David Varnau’s Joie de Vivre, create a unique experience for all downtown visitors.

The winner of the 2015-16 Downtown Sculpture Gallery People’s Choice award is the Peter Hazel’s The Hatch.

Steve Tyree’s Hawk is the winner of the 2015-16 Purchase Award. This artwork was purchased and can be seen on the corner of Main Street and Auburn Way in downtown Auburn, adding to the City’s public art collection.

A new People’s Choice will be determined for this new slate of sculptures. Voting opportunities can be found online at the City’s Cultural Arts webpage or in City Hall Tourism Office.

To add to the artwork experience, the mobile application StQry (StQry.com) can be downloaded on any smart phone. This application provides a description, artist information and additional pictures of both the temporary artworks and the public artwork collection throughout the City. This mobile application is downloadable via the QR code on each of the artwork plaques to allow for individuals to access more information if they desire.

The Downtown Sculpture Gallery is a City of Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation program.
