Vehicle collision kills motorcycle rider on Highway 167 in Auburn

A motorcycle rider was killed Monday just before 5 p.m after colliding with another vehicle while traveling southbound on Highway 167 in Auburn.

Someone dropped the bag of cans, forcing other cars to make stop abruptly, according to Washington State Patrol. A motorcycle then rear-ended an SUV, causing the rider to fly off the bike.

The rider, who was later identified as Shawn D. McDonald, 35, of Puyallup, died at the scene. Nobody else was injured.

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority and King County Paramedics responded to the accident at 4:50 p.m. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene by King County Paramedics.

Troopers are asking anyone with information on who dropped the bag of cans to call the Washington State Patrol.

Southbound SR 167 was closed for about 90 minutes, although traffic was allowed to get by on the shoulder.
