Albert C. Chabot, 62, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Auburn Way South early Monday morning.

According to Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman, Chabot was crossing the street in the 1500 block of Auburn Way South, near M Street Southeast, around 7:15 a.m.

“The sky was still dark, the victim was wearing dark clothing, and he was crossing outside of a crosswalk,” Hirman said in a news release.

According to Hirman, several drivers narrowly missed the man before he was struck in the northbound lanes.

The man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, but died from his injuries soon after arriving.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The accident investigation closed northbound lanes of Auburn Way for several hours. Two northbound lanes of travel were closed until about 11 a.m.

Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters were on the scene. Firefighters and King County Medics treated the man on scene before he was transported.
