VRFA contains Auburn apartment fire

The Valley Regional Fire Authority quickly contained and doused a Sunday apartment fire.

Firefighters dispatched to the scene at 2243 I St. NE, No. 2, at 10:11 p.m. saw smoke showing from the rear of a two story four-plex. Firefighters made an aggressive interior fire attack to the second floor of a center unit.

According to the VRFA, the fire originated in a laundry area and spread to an adjoining bathroom. There was extensive smoke and heat damage to the second floor with some water damage to the first floor. The damage was estimated at $20,000.

The unit's occupants were not home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

A South King County Fire task force is investigating.
