July 3, 2012 · 2:59 PM
A 23-year-old Auburn man trying to break up a fight between his neighbors across the street was instead stabbed to death early Tuesday morning in the 900 block of 6th Street Southeast.
According to Auburn police, the argument between the man and woman began inside a home but spilled into the front yard when a physical fight started.
The victim and others at his home were walking across the street to break up the fight when a man known to the fighting couple stabbed him. He died at the scene.
Police said the man's attacker got into a vehicle with others involved in the incident, but police stopped them a short time later and arrested him.
Officers recovered the knife used in the attack. Detectives are still trying to piece together what caused the argument in the first place.
