Scam alert: Painters claim to be City contracted to put house numbers on curbs

July 20, 2012 · Updated 3:03 PM

The City of Auburn has received reports that certain persons are approaching houses in Auburn claiming to be contractors of the City to paint house numbers on their curbs for easy recognition by emergency responders.

The impostors are asking for payment. They are not contracted by the City, and residents should be aware that this service has not been contracted or authorized by the City in any way.

Reports are stating that workers are in unmarked vans.

Should you be approached by any person claiming to be a City official, please ask for proper identification. If none can be produced, it is advised that citizens request the persons leave your property and report the incident by calling 911.

If at any time citizens have questions about City-authorized work, contact the City of Auburn main line at 253-931-3000.
