Shoppers looking for wine, liquor and beer are going to have two new superstore options as the retail alcohol beverage boom is on in Tukwila.

BevMo!, a national specialty beverage retailer, announced it will open a 10,000-square-foot store Sept. 28 in Tukwila at 17197 Southcenter Parkway.

Total Wine & More also recently announced that it will open a wine, spirits and beer superstore on Sept. 20 across from the Westfield Southcenter Mall at 300 Andover Park West.

Both store chains specialize in large volume sales of spirits, wine and beer.

Voters approved Initiative 1183 last year to get the state out of the liquor business and privatize sales. That change became effective in June and opened the door for nationwide companies to do business in the state.

BevMo! started in the San Francisco area in 1994 and now has 121 stores in California, Arizona and Washington. The company recently opened stores in Silerdale and Tacoma, also near major shopping malls.

BevMo!, in the former Tukwila Recliner Land store, will feature more than 1,800 wines, 1,400 beers and 1,400 spirits. Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Total Wine & More, which operates 85 stores in 13 states, opened its first Washington store earlier this summer in Bellevue.
