The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1741 and American Legion Post 78 – in conjunction with the City of Auburn – is conducting a flag pole transfer ceremony at 10 a.m. today at the new Veterans Building in Auburn Memorial Park, 411 E St. NE.

Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis will provide opening remarks. Bill Peloza, Auburn city councilman and VFW Post 1741 trustee, will serve as master of ceremonies.

There will be a ceremonial raising of the American and MIA flags, a Pledge of Alliance by Girl Scout Troop 2022, a gun salute by the Intertribal Warriors Association and other events. Refreshments will follow.

The VFW dedicated the flag pole to the City of Auburn. City workers removed the pole, concrete base and all, from the former VFW Hall on C Street and reset it in the front garden of the new Veterans Building. The VFW has volunteered to maintain the pole and flags.

Bill Warren, VFW and American Legion member, designed and crafted the VFW flag pole.
