Green River Community College graduate and current CWU-Des Moines elementary education major Paula Dragseth has been selected as a member of the Silver Cortege for Central Washington University’s 117th commencement.

CWU’s Westside ceremony will take place in Seattle on June 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Benaroya Hall in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium.

The Silver Cortege, which leads the procession of graduates into commencement, consists of a select group of junior students who have achieved academic excellence at CWU. Each student is chosen based on grade point average and credits completed.

Seven Auburn School District jewelry students captured top finishes at the Passing the Torch, Washington’s statewide high school jewelry and metals exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum. The exhibit is on display through June 4. Each participating school is allowed to submit five pieces total into the contest. Auburn High, Auburn Mountainview and Auburn Riverside submitted five pieces each. Six awards were presented in the jewelry category, and six in the sculpture category. The following Auburn students were recognized: Chelsea Wood (Auburn Riverside, first place, jewelry); Sergey Godunok (Auburn Mountainview, second place, jewelry); James Carroll (Auburn High, honorable mention, jewelry); Steven Singh, Mountainview, honorable mention, jewelry); Brandon Forgie (Riverside, first place, sculpture); Jeremy Hatfield, Auburn, second place, sculpture); Michelle Brant (Riverside, third place, sculpture).
