Community to celebrate Prothero's life on Saturday
A celebration of Mark Prothero's life is Saturday at the Kentwood High School Commons, 25800 164th Ave. SE, Covington. The open house is from 1 to 5 p.m.
Prothero – prominent criminal defense attorney, civic leader, community volunteer and coach – died April 19 at his Kent home with family at his side. Prothero, who had waged a two-year battle with lung cancer, was 57.
Prothero is best known as one of the lead defense attorneys in the high-profile case against Ridgway between 2001 and 2003. As co-counsel, Prothero brokered a plea deal that spared Ridgway the death penalty in exchange for the Auburn man confessing to 49 counts of aggravated murder.
