Gildo Rey receives Page Ahead grant

Gildo Rey Elementary School has been awarded a Page Ahead grant that will provide books valued at more than $4,000 for students to take home to read with siblings and families.

Page Ahead is a children’s literacy program committed to providing new books and developing reading activities that empower at-risk children.

Western Washington University’s Rachel Ward, daughter of Stuart and Denise Ward of Auburn, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship. Ward, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.99 GPA at Thomas Jefferson High and is interested in majoring in mathematics. ... WWU student Megan Light, daughter of Jim Viers and Robin Light of Auburn, received a $557 Irene and Dr. Lloyd Williams Scholarship, a $437 Margaret Aitken Scholarship, and a $150 Chappelle Arnett Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Light, a senior, has a 3.25 GPA and is majoring in physical education and health. Light is a student leader at the INN University Ministries and a fitness instructor at Western’s recreation center. ... WWU student Nicholas Oen, son of Jeffrey and Peggy Oen of Auburn, received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Oen, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.71 GPA at Auburn High School and is interested in majoring in psychology.
