Auburn Reporter earns WNPA awards for excellence, stories

The Auburn Reporter earned a Washington Newspaper Publisher’s Association’s General Excellence award and two staff members took home top honors at the 2008 Washington Better Newspaper Contest awards dinner at the Red Lion Hotel-Yakima Center in Yakima Oct. 2-4.
Judges awarded Editor Mark Klaas a first place in the Reporter’s circulation group of 10,001 and up for his personality profile on Dr. Hermann Ansingh, titled, “Good doctor’s story of survival.”
Former staff writer Mark Moschetti earned first-, second- and third-place awards for three sports personality profiles, respectively: “Hitting back at cancer;” “A big heart right from the start;” and “She’ll tri for her twin.”
The Auburn Reporter earned a third place in General Excellence behind the first-place Peninsula Gateway of Gig Harbor and the second-place Herald of Puyallup. Judges consider the overall quality of the newspaper, awarding points for news coverage, advertising, design, photos and graphics and the opinion page.
The Louisiana Press Association judged WNPA’s contest this year and chose winners from total of 2,837 entries submitted by 80 member newspapers.
