Students, teachers, parents, family and friends came together Friday at Arthur Jacobsen Elementary School for an emotional tribute to Mara Adams, a first-grader who died Sept. 22 of a rare form of pediatric brain cancer.
Students and others released an estimated 700 balloons in Mara’s honor. The color purple was the choice for Mara’s Team, a school-wide effort to raise awareness and support for the 6-year-old girl.
“It was beautiful and a fitting tribute to Mara. I know she loved it,” the family wrote on www.maraadams.com, a Web site devoted to their child. “We hope it gave the students a chance to remember Mara and think about how much she loved each one of them.
“We know it was overwhelming and beautiful to be literally surrounded in a circle of love. Thank you to all our friends at AJ who made this possible.”
