The Auburn International Farmers Market begins its inaugural season Sunday.

Festivities begin at 8 a.m. at the Auburn Transit Center with the Kiwanis Cowboy Breakfast, followed by a formal opening ceremony celebration at 10:30 a.m. that will include a welcome by Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis, Pacific Mayor Rich Hildreth and Algona Mayor David Hill. Auburn Councilman Bill Peloza will be the master of ceremonies.

Other opening day events include an opportunity to chat with Northwest gardening expert Ed Hume, an art exhibit by Auburn High School’s Drawing II students, and entertainment by the Cowboy Band, Jet City Chorus and Auburn Marshallese Gospel Group.

Each Sunday the Market will feature approximately 40 vendors selling seasonal produce, cut flowers and crafts along with a variety of cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, educational workshops, and entertainment. The market will pull farmers and vendors from the greater Auburn valley area, including Algona and Pacific.

The market will run on consecutive Sundays at the Auburn Transit Center Plaza, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Sept. 27.

ABOUT THE AUBURN INTERNATIONAL FARMERS MARKET

In 2008, a group of interested citizens and agriculture advocates were pulled together by Auburn City Councilmember Bill Peloza and have been planning a farmers market in Auburn for the past 18 months. The City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation joined as a partner recently and Market Manager Lillie Brinker was hired earlier this year.
