Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a report of a brush fire on the hillside below Green River Community College just before 10 a.m. this morning.

Initial reports described it as a small brush fire approximately 20 feet in diameter. The first arriving unit reported a rapidly growing fire approximately 50 feet by 200 feet.

VRFA units were assisted by campus forestry personnel and a brush crew from neighboring King County Fire District 44. The rapid response enabled a fire line to be quickly dug around the fire and halted its progress.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the time.
