The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 171 calls for service between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, among them the following:

Aug. 31

Fire alarm: 11:58 a.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 personnel checked out a fire alarm caused by a technician performing routine maintenance. No problems were found.

Sept. 1

Aid call: 7:16 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters evaluated a patient in police custody. American Medical Response (AMR) transported the patient to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for follow-up treatment.

Sept. 2

Service call: 12:59 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded to the 3300 block of R Street Southeast to help with a tree in the roadway. Firefighters moved the downed tree to the side of the road.

Sept. 3

House fire: 1:03 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters extinguished a fire on the porch of a home. While firefighters were so engaged, additional firefighters treated the home’s occupant for burns to her feet; then an ambulance transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be spontaneous combustion from rags that had been used to stain a cabinet.

Sept. 4

Dog bite: 3:25 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters treated a boy for injuries he received while feeding his grandmother’s dog a doggy bone. His mother took him to ARMC where doctors examined the small puncture wounds between his eyes.

Sept. 5

Motor vehicle accident: 2:34 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters extricated and treated two patients from a car accident in the 400 block of Auburn Way North. American Medical Response transported one patient to ARMC. The other had minor scrapes and declined such transport.

Sept. 6

Motor vehicle accident: 3:57 p.m., (Auburn). While Engine 31 was investigating a fuel spill on Emerald Downs Way, a vehicle slid into it. Both the fire engine and the other vehicle were damaged in the low-speed impact, but no one was hurt.
