December 21, 2009 · 10:06 AM
Valley Regional Fire Authority units responded early Monday morning to a kitchen fire in the Auburn Crystal Townhomes, located at 3611 Auburn Way S., displacing a female occupant and her pet dog and cat.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., the female occupant awoke to her dog barking and found her studio apartment charged with smoke and a fire on her kitchen stove. She immediately exited the apartment and began waking the other occupants of the complex.
VRFA units arrived and extinguished a small fire on the stove that had extended to the wall cabinets and the wall structure. Firefighters successfully rescued the occupant’s cat who was in stable condition when reunited with the owner.
There is approximately $10,000 worth of damage to the apartment. The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking. There were no injuries to citizens or firefighters.
