Auburn Valley YMCA hosts Healthy Kids Day

Event encourages kids to stay active and keep learning all summer long

From active play to educational activities, the Auburn Valley YMCA presented Healthy Kids Day last Saturday.

The free community event is designed to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active, part of the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families.

The day-long event featured activities such as: healthy cooking demonstrations; arts and crafts; fun games; free cycle helmet with fittings (for the first 100 kids) and program demonstration to motivate and teach families how to develop and maintain healthy routines at home throughout the summer.

Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at more than 1,500 Ys throughout the country by more than 1.2 million participants, works to get more kids moving and learning, creating habits that they continue all summer long.

“When a child is healthy, happy and supported they can make great things happen,” said Jason Berry, executive director for the Auburn Valley YMCA. “We believe in the potential of all children, and we strive to help kids find that potential within themselves.”
