Corgis cuteness abounds at Emerald Downs

A crowd of more than 10,000 spent Sunday afternoon at Emerald Downs taking in Thoroughbred racing and fun competition for 72 Puget Sound area Corgis.

Sprinting to the finish first in the championship race was Angus Phan, owned by Marian Armas and her husband, Davis Phan, of Auburn.

Angus Phan, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, was born on Dec. 21, 2015. Angus has his own Instagram page @thecorgistory and has more than 8,600 followers.

“People enjoy visiting the Corgis and their owners in our park before the races,” said track president Phil Ziegler. “The races are at short distances, and some run to their owner at the finish line and others run around and play. The crowd seems to enjoy those the best.”

Various venders, including the Auburn Valley Humane Society, were part of the festivities. Two dogs were up for adoption and both left the track on their way to new homes.
