Family-friendly outdoor entertainment and blockbuster movies planned for this summer

The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is excited to announce the Summer Sounds & Cinema Series 2017 line-up, a combination of entertainment and movies to ensure these Friday nights in Auburn are blockbuster evenings.

Event number one starts at 6 p.m., Friday, 28 at Lea Hill Park, 31693 124th Avenue SE when the Zaniac Comedy Show hits the stage for 40 minutes of laughs. That 80’s Show follows, playing all the best music from the 80’s. The 90-minute concert will be followed by a screening of Sing (PG). In a town with no humans, a koala holds a singing competition to save his theater.

The City of Auburn will also offer inflatable rides. Featured at the event is an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Brian Lane. Brian will lead participants in print-making activities. Come hungry, as Stacks Food Truck will be at the event selling a variety of their delicious burgers, fries and drinks and Tastyz will be there, too, with hot dogs, kettle corn, shaved ice and more. King County Parks is supporting this event.

The next event is at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4 at Sunset Park, 1420 69th St. SE, with entertainment provided by Mister G, a Latin Grammy Award Winning musician who’ll perform his original, multi-cultural songs. The Hall Pass Band will follow, playing high-energy hits and rock/pop favs. Following the 90-minute concert will a screening of Moana (PG). In Ancient Polynesia, a terrible curse reaches Moana, a voyaging enthusiast and only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. Join Moana on her epic journey.

The City of Auburn will also offer inflatable rides and an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Suzy Fountaine, who will be leading participants in creating paper leis. Bring your appetite as Arnold’s Happy Days’ Food Truck will be on-site selling a variety of burgers, salads and beverages. The Auburn Youth Council will be there, too, selling hot dogs, chips, popcorn, drinks and other treats.

On Friday, Aug. 11, the final concert and movie of the season will be at Les Gove Park, 910 Ninth St. SE, the entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. with local favorite Eric Ode. Eric’s 40-minute performance will be followed by Rain City Time Machine, playing the hits you want to hear. The movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakes (PG-13), will be shown on an inflatable, 50-foot movie screen at dusk. Thirty years after the defeat of Darth Vader and the Empire, Rey, a scavenger from the planet Jakku, finds a BB-8 droid that knows the whereabouts of the long lost Luke Skywalker. Featured at the event are inflatable rides and an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Suzy Fountaine, who’ll be leading participants in the creation of glow stick light sabers. This event is coupled with the AuburnFest’s Almost 5K Poker Fun Run. The event will offer a beer garden and food vendor options.

Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for a refreshing evening under the stars.
