Fireworks injure two boys near sales stand

A fireworks accident injured two boys Monday afternoon in Auburn.

The incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. in the area of fireworks sales stands near the Muckleshoot Casino on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation, according to the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

The boys, 12 and 13, were treated for injuries at the scene and transported to nearby hospitals.

According to officials, one boy lost two fingers and another was hit in the arm with shrapnel in the accident.

It remains unclear as to how the accident happened, officials said.

One report said the boys found a firework that hadn’t detonated, and it went off when the picked it up. Another report said the boys ignited the firework, but it had a short fuse and exploded before it could be tossed away from them.
