Register early for the Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is looking to attract a good hand.

As part of AuburnFest, the Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Les Gove Park, 910 Ninth St. SE.

The run will utilize the big loop at the park. Five loops around is “almost” a 5K – short by 1,138 feet. For each lap around the loop, participants will stop, draw a card and try to get the best poker hand with the five cards drawn. Prizes will be awarded for the top poker hand in each age category (awarded from the stage at 8:30 p.m.). The route is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages and abilities. All registrants will receive a T-shirt and will be treated to a fun night in the park.

The run-walk is also part of the City of Auburn’s Summer Sounds & Cinema concert and outdoor movie event that same evening in the park. The night will have two musical performances on the main stage, Mister G at 6 and Atomic Pop at 7. The movie, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (PG) starts in the park at dusk. Also offered at the event will be food concessions/food trucks, a beer garden, inflatable rides and an ArtRageous hands-on art activity.

A special discount on race registration is available through Tuesday, July 24. The special entry fee is $10. Enter code: 989BULL at checkout to receive the discount.

Early registration fee is $20 by July 29, $23 (July 30-Aug. 8) and $25 on-site beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 10.
