Monroe Shropshire is the newly appointed fire commissioner of Mountain View Fire and Rescue.
Shropshire took the oath of office on Tuesday. He fills a vacancy on the five-member board that had been open since mid-December. He will hold the office until the November 2017 elections are certified, at which time the person elected will be sworn into office.
Shropshire is a former elected commissioner of the district and a retired assistant fire chief from the then-City of Auburn Fire Department.
“Serving the citizens of fire district is a responsibility I feel privileged to assume,” Shropshire said.
The board of commissioners meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at District Headquarters Station 95, 32316 148th Ave. SE, Auburn.
