Weather, competition heat up in prep track and field

Auburn sophomore D’Angelo Washington pulled a surprise, capturing the long jump title at the 4A West Central District on Thursday at French Field.

Washington stretched a personal-best 22 feet, 7 inches to take the win and qualify for state next week.

Curtis’ Taj Moffett (22-2) was second and Auburn Mountainview’s Talan Alfrey was third with a personal-best 22-1¼.

The district meet resumes Saturday at French Field, with field events beginning at 10 a.m., running events at 11:30.

The top eight finishers in each event qualify for the state meet May 25-27 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
