With the 2016-17 school year halfway through and the 2017 legislative session just around the corner, Sen. Joe Fain invites South King County elementary, middle and high school students to participate in the Canvas to Capitol student art program.

Students on their own or together with their art class are encouraged to submit original pieces to be displayed on the walls of Fain’s office in the state Capitol building.

“Not only is it a great way to decorate the office, but having the work of students prominently displayed provides a daily reminder of exactly who we’re in Olympia to serve especially as our public schools will be the focus in 2017,” said Fain, R-Auburn, Senate majority floor leader, who started the program in 2013. “Sharing the creative works of some of my youngest bosses is a great way to remind me and the hundreds of people who visit my office each session that we have to develop well-rounded citizens with artistic expression playing a major role.”

Students who participate are also encouraged to visit the Capitol with their family to get a firsthand look at state government and see their creations on display.
