VRFA fire and rescue blotter | April 21

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 219 requests for service between April 10 and 15, among them the following:

April 10

Aid call: 10:15 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters evaluated a middle-aged man who was complaining of chest pain, and King County Medics transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

April 11

Gas leak: 9:40 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a construction crew that had sliced through a gas line while digging in a street. No one was hurt, and the crew kinked the pipe with tape to minimize the leak. Firefighters blocked off the area and called Puget Sound Energy in to fix the problem.

April 12

Aid call: 8:03 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters treated an elderly woman who was complaining of hip pain after a fall, and a private ambulance transported her to MAMC.

April 13

Aid call: 4:11 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters helped a 1-month-old whose mother had reported that he or she was struggling to breathe. Finding the infant breathing normally and with clear lung sounds, firefighters left said infant at home with mom.

April 15

Drug overdose: 1:12 p.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters with King County Medic One responded to a woman rendered unconscious and unresponsive by a heroin overdose, and a private ambulance transported to MAMC.

Illegal burn: 3:23 p.m., (Lea Hill). Having responded to a complaint of illegal burning, firefighters found a homeowner burning freshly-cut branches in a fire pit. Firefighters schooled the errant owner in what is legal to burn and what is not, and how to obtain a burn permit. The homeowner extinguished the fire.
