VRFA fire and rescue blotter | Feb. 24

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 232 calls for service between Feb. 13 and 19, among them the following:

Feb. 13

Motorcycle accident: 5:50 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA firefighters and King County Medics responded to a motorcycle accident on northbound Highway 167 just south of 15th Northwest where they found a young woman lying on the side of the road. Evaluation found her to be uninjured after traveling at a high rate of speed and falling off the bike. Her bike continued northbound for approximately 400 more feet before it crashed into a guardrail. She was left at the scene with her husband.

Feb. 14

Aid call: 9:05 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters responded to a woman who was complaining of abdominal pain. The woman remained at home with caregivers to monitor her condition.

Feb. 15

Aid call: 4:20 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters treated an elderly man who had fallen on a staircase, injuring his face and hands, and a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Feb. 16

Commercial fire: 9:27 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA, Kent and other units responded to a reported commercial fire at Merrill Gardens in downtown Auburn. Firefighters arrived and were notified that a small fire on the fourth floor had been put out by the sprinkler system. Firefighters accessed the fourth floor unit to find a cardboard box had been placed on the stove and the stove accidentally turned on to “high.” The smoke was evacuated from the fourth floor, and on-site maintenance crews started the process of cleaning up. The fire was investigated and determined to be accidental in nature.

Feb. 17

Aid call: 9:40 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters evaluated and treated a woman who was complaining of flu-like symptoms, and a private ambulance transported her in stable condition to MAMC.

Feb. 18

Patient assist: 6:18 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters called in to assist a disabled woman helped her from her house to her car for transport to St. Joseph’s Medical Center for an ongoing medical problem.

Feb. 19

Aid call: 9:45 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics assessed an older man who was complaining of chest pain, and medics transported him to MAMC for further treatment and evaluation.
