VRFA fire and rescue blotter | Oct. 27

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 280 calls for service between Oct. 16 and 22, among them the following:

Oct. 16

Two-alarm residential fire: 6:08 p.m., (Lea Hill). VRFA units dispatched to a single-family residence with smoke and flames visible quickly upgraded the conflagration to a working fire, added a second alarm and extinguished the fire. Nobody was hurt. Units from Puget Sound Fire Authority, King County Medic One, and Rehab-1 from KCFD No. 20 helped put out the fire and the American Red Cross found shelter for six adults.

Oct. 17

Aid call: 8:24 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters helped an elderly man who was exhibiting stroke-like symptoms, and a private ambulance transported him to Good Samaritan Hospital for further evaluation.

Oct. 18

Aid call: 1:24 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a Pacific senior citizen who was suffering from flu-like symptoms and had been non-compliant with her prescribed medications. When firefighters determined that the woman’s vitals were stable and the best care for her would be an evaluation at a hospital, a private ambulance hurried her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Oct. 19

Downed wires: 5:53 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of downed wires on West Valley Highway found a tree that had fallen and taken down some cable wires. The Engine 31 crew cleared the debris, placed scene tape around the affected area and contacted the cable company.

Oct. 20

Aid call: 10:01 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters treated a depressed, middle-aged man who had downed 16 sleeping pills with a bottle of wine, and a private ambulance transported him to a local hospital.

Oct. 21

Car vs. pedestrian: 12:01 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters determined that the middle-aged man lying on a street with a leg injury had been struck by a car and sustained a dislocated knee. Firefighters and King County Medics treated the man at the scene and transferred him to Airlift Northwest for transport to Harborview Medical Center.

Oct. 22

Aid call: 8:24 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics responded to a man who had been stabbed multiple times. Despite paramedics’ efforts, the patient ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
