JACK SAELID

Jack Saelid, beloved and respected husband, father and grandfather passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Auburn, WA from cancer. Jack was born on September 23, 1935 in Pasadena, California.

He received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona where he was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity.

He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Balbach in 1956 – his bride as he always introduced her. He worked at a local Tucson radio station as station engineer. Although he had the voice of a DJ, he was more comfortable with the building and running station communications.

He served in the Air Force Natl Guard 7 years in AZ and CA and left as a 2nd Lt. They moved to Arcadia, CA in 1962. He worked for and retired from Xerox Medical Systems as a Quality Control Engineer. He was the project lead on the pre-cursor of the modern mammography machine. Jack was elected to the Arcadia City Council 1974 – 1982 serving as Mayor twice.

An active member of the Sister City Commission he coordinated the Arcadia High Marching Band to visit Newcastle, AUS which inspired the Marching Koalas to participate in the Rose Parade shortly thereafter. Jack received his degrees as a Master Mason at Arcadia Lodge #547 and was a past master at both Arcadia and Auburn, Wa after they moved in 1995. He was an active member of Scottish Rite, Royal Arch (PHP), Order of the Eastern Star (PP), and other orders that served the community with philanthropic goals and worked to inspire to make good men better.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Jeff and Lisa (Heithe), daughter-in-law Michelle and son-in-law Joseph Heithe Jr., and grandchildren Marrissa and Cassidy Green and Joshua and Abby Heithe.

The celebration of life service will be held on August 11, 2018 at 3pm at the Auburn Masonic Temple, 10 Auburn Way S, Auburn, WA 98002.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Early Life Speech and Language a group supported by Scottish Rite (earlylifespeech.org) or the Respite Care Program at the Auburn Senior Center.
