Marian Jean Thomas

On March 31, 2016, at 4:10 pm, Marian passed away at her home at Wesley Homes in Auburn, WA. She died of pneumonia and complications involving her lungs. She was with family at the time of her passing. She was 82 years old.

Marian was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 23, 1933. She was the middle child. She had an older brother, Alan, and a younger brother, Rodger.

Marian moved to Oklahoma for a while when younger, as her father, James, was moved for work. She was there long enough to pick up the accent. The family then moved to Hinsdale, Illinois, the result of her father being named a manager at Wilson Meat Packing and Sporting Goods. She graduated and attended Iowa State University. She earned a Dietician degree and worked at various places, Eastman Kodak and The Veterans Hospital in Seattle, WA. She met her 1st husband at Iowa State, Gordon Thomas, and together they moved out to Washington State when he was accepted to the residency program at King County Hospital.

Marian enjoyed her PEO sisters and supporting Auburn Schools. She worked on school levies and parent support groups of the various activities her children were involved in. Marian sat on the Green River Community College Board of Dirctors and worked many years with the Orthopedic Penny Drive in Auburn. She was also involved in the Auburn Food Bank.

She enjoyed skiing at Crystal Mountain, Sun Valley, and Whistler. She took trips to Hawaii, Australia, China, Europe, Mexico, and the Antarctica with friends and family. She was a wonderful hostess, welcoming friends and family to her home for celebrations, salmon bakes and pig roasts. She loved time with her grandchildren and supported all family members in their sporting, music, acting, and other events.

Marian married Gerald Roux, her devoted second husband, in November, 2015. They met when crossing paths at Wesley Homes, as they both went for walks. Gerry suggested they walk together. Soon they were holding hands and from there their relationship flourished. It was beautiful to see mom with Gerry.

He, and his family, made her very happy.

She is survived by her second husband Gerald Roux; her children Dr. Nancy Becker, Pr. Suzanne Thomas Paulus, Joanne Blackburn (John) and Charlie Thomas (Cher); her grandchildren Ben (Ciara), Mike (Laura), and Clinton Paulus, Madison and TJ Blackburn, Barbie Becker, Olivia and Ethan Thomas. Children from Marian’s second marriage include Dennis Roux, Mary Rita Roux-Zink (Martin), Nancy Cavadini (John), Eileen Roux Bulkley (Robert), Gina Seward (Dale), Charlene Pogue (Douglas), Vincent Roux, and Patrick Roux.

Marian will be remembered for her love of the Lord, positive spirit, happiness she gave others, laughter, and her lovely smile.
