ROGER THORDARSON

Roger Roy Thordarson was born to Vera Rogers and T. Roy Thordarson on May 4, 1933, in Centralia, WA and passed away peacefully on May 27, 2017 at Arbor Village, Continuing Care Campus. He graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Whitman College.

Roger worked for The Boeing Company from 1958 until 1970 when he was laid off. He went to work for the Auburn School District for 25 years in a variety of capacities including Maintenance, Labor Negotiations, Food Service, Federal Programs, Custodial and Pupil Transportation where he retired.

Roger was elected to serve on the Auburn City Council for a term beginning January 2004 through December 31, 2007. Roger served as vice chairman at the Public Works. In addition, he served on the King County Regional Transit Committee and was appointed by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) to serve on the National League of Cities (NLC) Human Development Policy Committee.

He was very active in the region and community: the Auburn Optimist Club, the Auburn Good Ol’ Days Committee, YMCA Board of Directors, Metro Transit Sounding Board, Sounder Transit Technical Advisory Committee, Auburn Parks and Recreation Board as well as many other community endeavors. Roger was honored as a Hometown Hero by the Auburn City Council in August of 2002.

Roger is survived by his wife Marcia Hoover. His daughters: Meg Thordarson, Cathy Thordarson, Karen Hassen (Michael) Hillary Hoover (Darreen Vengroff) Annabelle Hoover (Alan Schab) Meredith Hoover. Grandchildren: Etta Thordarson, Ashley Thordarson, Zoe Dellinger, Stephen Hassen, Charles Hassen, Vivienne Vengroff, Atticus Hoover-Straub. He was preceded in death by Margaret Ann Thordarson.
