Let our farmers market grow

September 20, 2012 · Updated 1:50 PM

I was saddened to read the letter ("Auburn's meager Sunday market", Sept. 14, Reporter) bad-mouthing the Auburn Farmers Market, its supporters and comparing it to the market in Puyallup.

Yes, the Puyallup market is larger – but it's had 30 years to grow to that size.

Give Auburn's market time to mature. Just a few years old, Auburn's market has already doubled in size, by my estimation. As any farmer or gardener knows, growing something out of nothing takes time, patience and the right nutrients.

If we want our market to rival the bustling one to the south, it's up to us to make it so by building it up, not tearing it down.

The very fact we have a market to compare is due to those individuals who have worked hard and turned empty pavement into a weekly community gathering. Thank you.

I'm excited to see our market grow.
