Hail to Rosie, others who help those in need
A long time ago when Elvis learned to rock 'n' roll, when girls wore poodle skirts and saddle gloves to school and we were not able to "Google" into the private lives of other people, a little girl was looking for a nice place to live.
Much to her delight, she woke up in a place like Auburn.
In a world filled with the sights and sounds of rushing rivers, a breeze blowing through the evergreens, train whistles in the night, the small town atmosphere welcomed her imagination and spirit.
She attended Auburn schools, found and married her Prince Charming, and became a mother. She was active in her church and began to see how lucky she was to live in a place where people came together to give of themselves.
As an adult, she spread her wings, offering kindness and love to those in Auburn who did not always have the luxury of a nice meal in a home of their own or a warm bed to sleep in.
I will just call her Rosie. She introduced me to a fundraiser that brings women in Auburn together for a charity fashion show. We may not have famous speakers at our event and we may not get headlines in newspapers, but we are women spending a few hours together each year for a common cause.
Many people come together to make the Pregnancy Aid Fashion Show and Luncheon happen every spring. Rose has been an ambassador for pregnancy aid for many years and never fails to remind me that all people really are created equal. Some of us are just more fortunate than others.
With her husband at her side, she has helped kick doors down for women and families who, for whatever reason, are trapped by poverty, fear, lack of education or just a bad choice or two.
Thank you for the Rosies in Auburn who are willing to help others.
