Heartbreak

for Auburn’s heritage

I think I shall never see

A city more willing to cut a tree

Than Auburn’s war on the Sunbreak

Because solely for the budget’s sake

This slaughter will bring a gigantic fee

Oh, for want of a spotted owl’s nest

That would really put to a thorny test

Whether the city would then destroy

The heritage oak as a taxing ploy

And say killing this tree is best
