The Lions showed off their mettle this past weekend, taking home fourth-place at the 2011 Puget Sound Adidas Invitational volleyball tournament.
Auburn Mountainview, the host team, fought their way out of pool play, moving past Everett, Kamiak and R.A. Long with six game wins in the prelims.
In the second round the Lions won five of their six games against Seattle Prep, Skyline and R.A. Long, setting themselves up for a bracket game against Burlington Edison.
Against the Tigers – who went on to win the tourney – Auburn Mountainview fell 27-25, 25-21, forcing a game against Jackson, the defending 4A state champs.
The Lions were defeated by the Timberwolves 25-18, taking home fourth place.
ALSO: The Auburn Riverside girls took eighth-place in the tourney, winning their way out of the preliminary pool with a 4-2 game record over Woodinville, Kamiakin and Skyline. In the second round the Ravens went 4-2, defeating Graham-Kapowsin and Archbishop Murphy before losing two games to Lake Stevens. In bracket play Auburn Riverside split 16-25 and 25-17 with Oregon’s Sam Barlow, with the Ravens losing 25-17 to Graham-Kapowsin in the game for seventh-place... The Auburn Trojans finished 22nd in the tourney out of 24 teams. In tourney bracket play the Trojans beat R.A. Long 25-20, 25-12 before losing 25-22 to Marysville.
