Auburn Mountainview improves to 3-1 with 29-12 win over Yelm; Auburn and Auburn Riverside both post losses | Football

The Auburn Mountainview Lions stretched their winning streak to three on Friday with a 29-12 win over Yelm in a non-league 3A game at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
The Lions (3-1 overall) - who begin league play in the South Puget Sound League 3A next Saturday against the undefeated 4-0 Bonney Lake Panthers - were led by junior quarterback Domenic Rockey who went 27-of-46 for 317 yards with a two touchdowns and two interceptions against Yelm (0-4).
The Lions struck early in the first quarter of the game with Rockey finding junior Devin Bryant from 15 yards out for a touchdown. Bryant finished with eight catches for 84 yards.
Sophomore kicker Joey Cassano notched two of his three field goals in the game in the second quarter, booting one in from 23 yards an another from 28 yards out. Cassano would add another 28-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Yelm's Quinton Buck put the Tornados on the board with a 20-yard punt return, and Auburn Mountainview senior Skyler White answered in the waning moments of the half, hooking up with Rockey for a touchdown reception. White finished with a game-high 10 catches for 105 yards.
In the third quarter, junior Victor Korchemniy added another seven points for the Lions, scoring from 10 yards out. Korchemniy led Auburn Mountainview on the ground with 117 yards on 15 carries.
Yelm closed out scoring in the game with Kyle Brownell running one in from 17 yards out in the fourth quarter.
In addition to three field goals, Cassano finished the game with four catches for 75 yards and JJ Lacey had three receptions for 38 yards.
The Lions host Bonney Lake in their SPSL 3A opener at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
ALSO: The Auburn Trojans suffered their second loss of the season on Friday, falling 34-21 to Tahoma in SPSL North 4A action at Maxwell Field. The Bears (2-1 league, 2-2 overall) struck first in the contest, with Zach Brown running one in from 3 yards out for the TD. Auburn (2-2 league, 2-2 overall) responded in the second quarter with junior Darnell, first picking off an errant Tahoma pass and then capitalizing on the Trojans next play from scrimmage with a 34-yard TD run. Hagans added another TD in the second half, scoring from 85 yards out. Tahoma's Brown would finish the game with three touchdown runs, with Beau Riggs adding another rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Bear kicker David Stoeker had two field goals from 34 and 29 yards, respectively. Brandon Greer scored the Trojans final touchdown of the game and kicker Axel Barajas was good on all three of his point after attempts. The Trojans will look to rebound next Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium with a 7 p.m. game against Kentwood (2-1, 2-1)... Auburn Riverside fell 40-6 to Kentridge (2-1, 3-1) Friday at French Field. The Ravens (2-2, 1-2) lone score in the game came in the fourth quarter with quarterback Josh Latta hooking up with Andrey Zadneprovskiy for a 15-yard TD pass. Latta finished the game with 7-of-15 passing for 94 yards and an interception. Zadneprovskiy had three catches for 58 yards and Everett Chung had seven carries for 44 yards. Latta had 42 yards rushing on 11 carries. The Ravens will host Mount Rainier 0-3 at 7 p.m. this Thursday at Auburn Memorial.
