Auburn Riverside falls to Mount Rainier 61-48; Auburn Mountainview, Auburn post wins | Girls basketball

Auburn Riverside dropped a 61-48 decision to No. 2 Mount Rainier in South Puget Sound League North 4A girls basketball action Thursday in Des Moines.

Led by junior Brittany McPhee's game-high 27 points, the Rams (3-0 league, 4-0 overall) built on a slim 15-13 first-quarter lead and pulled away in the second quarter to post a 33-23 advantage at the intermission.

Auburn Riverside (2-1, 3-1) was led by senior Jalea Crump's 15 points. Junior Kendall Foster had 14 points and junior Shantell Jackson added eight.

The Ravens host Kentlake (0-2, 0-3) at 6 p.m. Saturday.

ALSO: Auburn improved to 2-1 in the SPSL North 4A, 2-2 overall, with a 39-27 win over Kentlake (0-2, 0-3) Thursday at Auburn High School. The Trojans were led by senior Sienna Pollard and junior Jasmine Tomac, who each had 10 points. Auburn travels to Kentridge (2-1, 2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday ... Sixth-ranked 3A power Auburn Mountainview (4-0 overall) remained undefeated with a 67-26 nonleague win over Highline (0-4) Thursday on its home floor. The Lions had four players score in double-figures, with senior Caitlin Carr netting a game-high 18. Senior post Hattie Kosko added 14 points and junior Erika Lombardo had 13. Senior Aalia Braboy contributed 10. Auburn Mountainview hosts Timberline at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
